Structure Query Language (SQL) is a set of instructions given to the Database system to get some required output (Data from tables). The Oracle Database will take the SQL query as input and process it and give us the required output.

The user communicates with Oracle database by submitting questions/instructions called queries.

SQL is a standard language for Relational Database Management System (RDBMS).

SQL is Common for all RDBMS.

What is Queries?

A query is a question or a set of instructions submitted to Oracle server to perform some operation over a database.

History of SQL

Dr. E. F. Codd published a paper, “A Relational Model of Data for Large Shared Data Banks”, in June 1970. From then, it is popularly known as Codd’s model.

Codd’s model is now accepted as a global model for relational database management systems (RDBMS).

The language, Structured English Query Language (SEQUEL) was developed by IBM to use Codd’s model. In1979, SQL was firstly launched by Relational Software Inc (now Oracle) into the market. Today, SQL is accepted as the standard RDBMS language.
